Jesus made it clear we are called to love our neighbor as ourselves and that whatever we do for the least of his brothers and sisters, we do for him.

Trinity is in the process of building a high-impact mission & service program. Here is what we're doing right now:

Service Within the Congregation
We work hard to care for the members of our congregation, and there are always opportunities to help strengthen our community. Our deacons maintain a list of everyone in the congregation and make regular calls to them to see how they are and what their needs might be. We strive to provide transportation where needed and to send CDs of worship to people who can't attend.

Local Mission & Service
We give 17% of our church income to mission and service outside the church and we also give through special offerings and money given directly by church members. 10% goes to national and international mission & service and 7% goes to local mission. Local organizations we support include

  • The Broderick Christian Center - day shelter, food closet, and transitional housing
  • Alyce Norman Elementary School
  • Stonegate Elementary School
  • Yolo Hospice
  • The Collings West Sacramento Teen Center (operated by Youth for Christ)
  • West Sacramento Christmas Basket Program

Global Mission
Through the Presbyterian Church, we fund many kinds of national and global mission, including disaster assistance, missionaries, and new church development. We also directly fund Dennis Metcalf, a missionary from our own congregation, who works with Campus Crusade for Christ in Singapore.

In Summer 2006, we sent an intergenerational team to Mississippi to do hurricane Katrina relief work trip, and we hope to have similar trips in the future. (See some pictures.)

Hands-On Mission and Service
Food Boxes - Our "One Love" ministry is providing food boxes for over two dozen families who need a little help. Church members make donations to a fund. We then purchase food at 18 cents a pound or less from the Yolo County Food Bank. Next we assemble the boxes (pictures coming soon) and distribute them to the people who need them.

Trinity currently has a partnership with Alyce Norman Elementary School. We started with providing "lunch buddies" for kids who need friendships with adults who are positive role models. It's been very successful. We've expanded to providing food boxes to take some of the stress off of families that are living on the edge.

Trinity's Hispanic Ministry group is working to meet the needs of the Hispanic Community in and around West Sacramento. We currently translate the 9:00 worship service into Spanish (with radio receivers like the U.N. :-). We have held several events and groups and are continuing to look at the needs in the community and how we can help to address them.

Christmas Quilts and Christmas Families - Every December, we crank up the giving to provide tens of hand-made quilts to keep children warm. We also adopt families from local elementary schools and church members buy presents for the kids. We also add in some essential items for the families.

We also fill over 100 "Goody Bags" - bags with essential items for people who need them and give the bags out every Christmas along with adopting families in need.

Youth Service
Our youth have regularly scheduled service days (see the calendar for the next one or contact us), and we have also traditionally done a summer mission trip. In July 2004, we sent our youth to Oakland to work with with inner-city kids and the homeless and also to get to know ourselves and our God a little better. Then in 2006 our youth participated in Mission Mississippi a Hurricane Katrina relief trip (pictures).

Food Sunday
Once a month we have "Food Sunday" when we collect food for the local food closet.

Building Ministry
We are blessed with good facilities so we also do ministry through use of our facilities. Girl Scouts and their leaders meet in our classrooms, an Alcoholics Anonymous group meets here weekly, Hands Together parenting classes have met here, the Yolo County Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group has met here, we donated office space to Dave Dove - the director of the new Collings West Sacramento Teen Center - until that space was ready, and our fellowship hall frequently becomes a polling place.

Community Outreach
We host several events that are open to the public every year, including our summer lawn concerts, our annual Kids' Fun Day, and the summer Vacation Bible School (see pictures of all these). We're also reaching out to nearby communities like Natomas (see NatomasFamilyChurch.com). Of course the community is also invited to our popular Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday worship services - both of which include fun and goodies for kids.

What's Next?
We're always open to new ideas from our church family on how to serve our neighbors (whether near or far) and reach out to them in the name of Christ.
