Hanging Out with Jesus: Lazarus

Today’s reading is Read John 11:1-45.

“Martha said to Jesus, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Your brother will rise again.’” -John 11:21-23

Why did Jesus let his friend Lazarus die? Did he really think that a theological statement would be a comforting answer? What does it mean for Jesus to be “the resurrection and the life”? And what can we do with it?
