Out of the Box AUGUST 2010 Print E-mail

This summer, the Broderick Christian Center burned to the ground. This was potentially tragic news for West Sacramento - BCC provides meals, rest, hygiene, and social services for the poorest and most destitute among us. I cannot understate the amount of good the BCC delivers to our community. But then, I really don't need to. Clearly, you understood the need when you started supporting Out of the Box over 2 years ago; on the day you said yes, we started laying the groundwork for our response this summer. When the BCC burned down, Trinity church was in a position to make an immediate and significant impact. We took a collection of over $600, We provided all of the bags for their pantry service for a month, 4-6 meals of food for over 100 [that’s 400 – 600 meals] ,and the volunteers to make and deliver those meals. Because of your dedication we were in a position to step right in without deliberation or hesitation. We were not standing around saying “Maybe we should?”, or “What if?”, we responded “When and where!” We fed the sheep. I am proud and honored to serve with each and every one of you. But there is more, BCC expects to rebuild with an overnight housing unit, they have resumed their own pantry services and as a result pantries and feeding operations like Out of the Box have been collaborating with others like never before. We have been working with River of Life, Collings Teen Center, Southport Community Church to enhance and improve feeding efforts in West Sacramento. We have delivered drinks and snacks to Collings for BCC, and one Thursday night in July, they delivered a ton or more of groceries to Out of the Box [A Ford 150 overstuffed with cases of food]. There is a big and beautiful church in this world, of which we are a part - a very active part.

Introducing Out of the Box Ministries Print E-mail

Trinity Presbyterian Food Ministry… Code Name “Out of the Box Ministries”. As of March 2, 2008 - Trinity Presbyterian Church launched a new Ministry providing boxes of food for local families. Thanks to the efforts of many people, the initial inauguration of our new ministry was a success. During the month of March we made two deliveries - our pilot project provided six boxes of food to area families. Our second delivery was to 10 Alyce Norman Elementary school families on March 26th. Our hope is that we can continue to supplement these families' pantries on a monthly basis. During this pilot month, session has approved space and cabinets for food storage - and a willingness to expand the program. Our ongoing hope is to develop our capabilities as a caring organization to deliver more food, more care, and more love to more families.
